Draft order questions
Who has pick 1 in the 2026 AFL Draft?
Essendon holds the first selection in this published starting order. A matched bid can change the player taken first without changing which club begins on the clock.
Why do pick numbers change after a bid?
A club matching a bid inserts its tied player into the live order and uses eligible selections as payment. Later selections then move. Compare the starting order with a completed scenario rather than treating them as the same list.
Are compensation selections included?
This page reproduces the published post-trade starting picks. Conditional compensation awarded after the first draft night is not inserted in advance. Read the AFL’s compensation explainer for eligibility.
Why do some late picks have zero points?
The 2026 DVI table used here ends at pick 54. A zero-point selection can still be a draft opportunity; its points value is not a judgement about the player selected.
