Kale Matthews-Hampton scouting report

Kale Matthews-Hampton is the 2026 draft’s premier "basketball background" defender. A 187cm dynamic rebounder from Sturt, he blends elite aerial intercepting with explosive, line-breaking speed. Having recently committed fully to football, his high-IQ positioning and surgical kicking off half-back make him a versatile "utility defender" who can neutralize both small forwards and taller targets with clinical, high-possession class.

More from the scouting notes

Matthews-Hampton mirrors Rampe’s rare "defensive versatility" to handle various opponent sizes, combined with a "Blakey-esque" explosive transition and aggressive, line-breaking run-and-carry from the defensive 50.
